    School Philosophy

amiskwaciy Academy was designed to offer exciting enrichment programming for junior high and high school students in a respectful, safe environment. At amiskwaciy, we recognize that all beings are connected and our teaching styles and learning opportunities reflect this belief. Our Elder’s teachings, our community partners, family involvement and a committed teaching staff provide a holistic learning environment.

We believe at amiskwaciy Academy that our school philosophy is demonstrated best through our harmonious communal approach to learning.

amiskwaciy Academy offers exciting programming in a respectful, safe environment for Grades 7 to 12. We take a communal approach to learning, community partners, families and committed teaching staff providing a holistic learning environment.

Our students come from across Edmonton and surrounding areas as well as from First Nations communities and Métis settlements throughout Western Canada and the Northwest Territories. Most are First Nations, Métis or Inuit but we welcome students of all cultures. We teach the Medicine Wheel and in addition to our academic programming, offer CTS programs such as Cosmetology, Construction Technology, Foods and Fashion Studies. Through our community partnerships we provide hot breakfast and lunch programs, cultural supports and affordable transportation.

    We believe:
    • That all beings are connected
    • That partnerships with post-secondary, businesses and community agencies are essential to support our youth academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually
    • Our students are able to accomplish and succeed at amiskwaciy

Principal Message

Tansi,

As another school year comes to a close, I would like to offer gratitude to our students, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, staff, and community partners for making this year such a success.

Throughout the year, our students demonstrated resilience, growth, and determination in both their academic and personal journeys. Together, we celebrated many accomplishments, from classroom successes and athletic achievements to cultural teachings, ceremonies, feasts, land-based learning experiences, and community gatherings. Every day, our students reminded us of the strength, wisdom, and potential that exists within our community.

This year, we continued to honour Indigenous ways of knowing through language, song, story, ceremony, and connection to the land. We are grateful to the Elders, Cultural Facilitators, and Knowledge Keepers who shared their teachings and helped guide our students along their learning journeys. These experiences continue to strengthen the identity, confidence, and well-being of our young people.

To our families, thank you for trusting us with your children and for partnering with us throughout the year. Your support, encouragement, and involvement help create a strong foundation for student success. To our staff, thank you for your dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our students. The care you bring to your work each day makes amiskwaciy Academy a special place to learn and grow.

As summer begins, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, reconnect with family, spend time on the land, and continue giving thanks each morning for the gifts we have been given. May the summer months bring healing, laughter, adventure, and opportunities to create lasting memories with those you love.

To our graduating students, congratulations on this important milestone. We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and look forward to seeing the positive impact you will have on your families, communities, and the world. Wherever your path may lead, remember that you will always be part of the amiskwaciy family.

Have a safe, joyful, and restorative summer. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall as we continue our journey together.

ay-hiy,

Terris Mah
Principal
